Question of the month: What’s your favorite organizer?

by Cyndi on May 2nd, 2008

It can be a box, a set of drawers, a calendar, or whatever you most rely on to keep you organized. For me, it’s actually my computer desktop!! How much of a nerd does that make me? That’s because the the writing that I do…folders within folders within folders keep me from tearing out my hair when I go to look for the details of a project that I want to write up!

So what’s your favorite organizer? Send me a picture at cyndi@b5media.com with the subject line Jewelry organizer, and I’ll post it along with a link to your website or blog! Or just leave me a comment below if you’re not able to share a picture :-)

Well Sharon, I’d have to say that besides my computer, my journals are definitely my best organizing tools! Good suggestion…thanks! :-)

I use seed bead vials for the little guys, and small to medium clear baggies for the bigger guys. The seed beads are lined up by color on my windowsill by my work area (I sent a picture of that for the work area question) and the little baggies are bagged in bigger clear plastic baggies by colors, and those large baggies are lined up in shoe boxes.

Since all the vials and baggies are clear I can easily hold them next to each other to see what goes together.

I have silver photo boxes from IKEA. Tools in one, gemstone beads in one, wooden beads in another, everything else (for now) in another. The different beads and everything else are kept separate in seed bead vials, used pill bottles, ziploc baggies or small ziploc containers, depending on size, shape or use.
I also have a flat plastic tea tray about 1 inch deep (IKEA again, there’s a theme), so I can pick up my current work and move it all at once.
For current work I have several Darice organizer boxes. For most projects, these are small enough to hold my tools, beads and components; they stack easily, close securely and are very portable.

But that’s fine! We’ve had quite a few discussions on keeping our notebooks and sketchbooks in some sort of workable order too :-)

Sharon, I also have a sketchbook with my jewelery designs, and an Excel spreadsheet to list my designs’ requirements and instructions, and also approximate cost lists per supply.

However, without the boxes, bags and vials, I can’t find the stuff to make anything :)
