Taking a Day for Jewelry
Since I am semi-self-employeed, that means I rarely have a day off. This also means I often find myself glued to the keyboard and don’t get much time to actually make jewelry, which is sort of ironic I guess.
But, today, I managed to get some jewelry time in. It is a holiday, right? Of course, I made jewelry for a new book proposal I’m working on, but still, when I manage to get a few hours of just “jewelry time,” I’m reminded at how lucky I am. Maybe I still have a crappy part-time job, and I still have papers to grade for my other not-so-crappy part-time job, but I also have a jewelry career that really brings a lot to my life and is fun to boot.
I hope you managed to set aside a little “me” time this weekend. Granted, those of us in theU.S. who are celebrating Memorial Day today should also take a moment to remember those who are no longer with us, but don’t forget about yourself along the way.

Unfortunately I didn’t because I need to buy some new supplies (tigertail wire, crimp beads, etc.). I still haven’t made it to the store. I’m hoping to soon… we have busy lives!

This is a very good reminder! I am finding myself getting more and more distracted with the business end of the business and spending less and less time on the creative part. We need to periodically go back to the basics and feel that thrill of working with our materials and reminding ourselves why we are doing this in the first place!

Absolutely agree with you. We get so wrapped up in our JOB and forget the enjoyment part of it. Great earrings by the way. Are they Swarovski crystals?

Yes, they’re Swarovski. The earring components came from Fire Mountain.
You are both so right. This is something I warn people about who want to start a jewelry business. It can turn a hobby into a j-o-b.

I actually do have 2 friends that went berzerk beading and selling. They went at it so hard that they did burn out and now they REFUSE to have anything to do with it. I did warn them about moderation but they refused to hear my words.
