Swarovski Pearls
I usually shy away from anything “faux,” unless it’s faux coral or something similar since that is good for the environment, but I have been very curious about Swarovski pearls. I ended up purchasing a few strands in the powder rose color, and have to say…wow! These are gorgeous.
Now, why trade in faux for real in this case? I have to say price might be an issue. These are perfectly round, and the more perfectly round the more they usually cost. In fact, when you see these in person and feel them, they actually remind me of the pearls from the South Pacific.
Some web surfing turned up retail prices in the $6 dollar range for a temporarily strung strand of about 50 pearls in 8mm size. I also found some more information about them over at Looney Maiden Jewelry:
The advantage of Swarovski Pearls to real pearls is not just their price. These pearls are abrasion-proof, resistant to perfume, perspiration, electroplating, UV light and scratches. They can be washed and dry cleaned.

also, when using beading stitches, the uniform size of these is much more suited to some applications than the affordable and beautiful but a bit more irregularly shaped cultured fw pearls.
I used right-angle weave with some 4mm deep purple Swarovski pearls to make a heart, based on what I had learned from looking at some Japanese bead-weaving patterns. It’s SO pretty (no pic yet, though, so no link) and, of course, the uniformity of them makes a beautiful heart!

Another good point - yes, stitches like RAW work much better when the beads are uniform.
