Back in the Classroom
I’m back in the classroom today. I won’t be teaching jewelry. Instead, it will be English. Oh, so much fun - we’ll be covering punctuation tonight. Don’t you wish you could be there? (he he)
It’s been about a year since I’ve taught because I took the last year off to work on my dissertation. So, I’m really looking forward to getting back in the classroom.
I’m writing about this on my jewelry and beading blog here because teaching can be a very rewarding way to earn a living, and that of course, includes teaching others how to bead and make jewelry. So many jewelry makers think the only way to earn some money with their beading and jewelry skills is by selling the finished product, but that just isn’t the case. In fact, one of the big problems with this is that so many people make jewelry these days.
So, why not be a part of that?
Granted, not everyone enjoys teaching and it can be a little PIA now and then, but if you have the “teacher” gene in you, then consider it. I have a few articles where I talk about my own experience teaching jewelry - “Teaching Jewelry” and “Jewelry Kits” (which I used when teaching). Both may give you some ideas. And, don’t forget that there are a number of organizations out there now, like Luxe Jewels, who actually provide a method for you to jump into teaching rather quickly.
