Tacky Christmas Jewelry

by Tammy Powley on December 23rd, 2006

tacky-xmas.jpgWe had the usual holiday parties at work the other day. I ate way too much, ugh! We also had a gift exchange, but not your normal gift exchange. Ours was a tacky jewelry exchange. The jewelry had to be “Christmas” related and as tacky as possible.

When I first heard about this, which was like a day before it happened since I’m a part-timer there and tend to be placed at a new desk (if I’m lucky to have a desk at all) every day, I just found out about the exchange a day before it was to be held.

“Yikes! I don’t know if I can make tacky jewelry.” Of course, I was told I didn’t have to make it, but (a) that’s what I do and (b) your talking about going to a store a few days before Christmas after I’ve been working all day no less - not gonna happen.

So, I had to get creative and tacky when I got home, and here’s on of the jewelry designs I came up with: a regular bow, some sterling wire, attach with a wrapped loop, and then use round-nosed pliers to bend the wire into an ear hook.

Voila! Tacky and easy.

I have to admit, this sounded like a totally stupid idea when it was first introduced to me, but it turned out to be a lot of fun.

I saw the ultimate tacky earrings the other day. A cashier had them on (cleverly hung from her santa hat, not hear ears). about 2.5-3″ square battery operated fibre optic presents intended as tree ornaments …

I’ve started noticing more and more funky jewelry coming out the past few days. Funky but fun.
