Helping Out the Serious Jewelry Maker

by Tammy Powley on September 4th, 2006

Since posting that it is now serious jewelry time for those making holiday goodies, I have not been surprised really at the reaction I’ve gotten. So, to help you guys out, I’m going to start loading up this blog with holiday related suggestions. This includes ornaments, which are great to make for yourself or give as gifts, and jewelry pieces that you can make in multiple batches, again, great for gifts.

Keep an eye out for ideas and projects to come…..

I need all the help I can get. I make free form beaded “thingees” on 24 guage wire. I incorporate colorful clay forms like butterflies or women’s heads and create my own designs. When finished I twirl the beads and wire around into a pleasing form. I have been using them as scarf rings for the scarves and collars I make. I am also making some longer versions for my Christmas tree.
My daughter makes elegant gem necklaces using real silver, copper and gold. I cannot compete with her, but not everyone wants to wear gems (or can even afford them).
She is teaching me the basics of finishing necklaces, and I notice most of my relatives are asking for simple, 17 1/2 inch necklaces using nice beads with Swarovski crystals.
I am making myself necklaces that are simple with lots of sparkle that can be worn with v neck knit shirts that have collars.
I get a lot of compliments and people actually say ” Wow, that’s exactly what I’ve been looking for”.
So if you like simplicity, and don’t have a lot of money, get yourself to A.C. Moore, Michaels, and yes, even Wal Mart. Create yourself a winner!

From experience I can tell you that running a small business can be hard work. At first I was doing everything by hand, and when I say everything I not only mean jewelry, I was doing accountant work, tax work, salesman work, and the list goes on and on. I found myself spending more time in administrative tasks that actually making jewelry and/or teaching classes. While I was researching on how the tax procedure for a jewelry small business is, I came across Bead Manager Pro. At first I was a little skeptical because I have already tried Jewelry Designer Manager Deluxe which cost me $259.95 and I was not impressed at all.

After that experience, I saw that the Bead Manager Pro offered a Risk Free Money Back Guarantee and I went ahead and gave it a try – I didn’t have anything to loose.

After literally 5 minutes, I was already using the software and I quickly learned that it was going to save me money when tax time comes around, because you can export your data for your accounts and then import it into Quick Books or MYOB, in addition it is fully customizable for any country, so it helped me calculate Tax and Currency Rates for my jewelry businesses that I have within and outside the US.

Below are a couple of feature that I also really like: Will calculate sale prices for Wholesale, Direct and Retail Customers all at the same time.

The automatic inventory system will keep track of all your parts in your stock and alert you when you are running low so you can order more.
Lets you keep all your customer information in its database plus you can set alerts to remind you of their birthday or other special dates.
Create professional invoices & easily scroll through invoice lists to check for outstanding payments that are owed to you.
I also do cosigment and it helped me create consignment records for my party planners and instantly change those into invoices once sales have been made with this power packed jewelry software package.
Professional presentation for your products. It prints shipping labels, part labels and pieces labels and also help you design and print professional looking catalogs with pictures of your designs and your company details.
Helps you save old designs so you don’t forget how to make pieces. Keep notes and records on how you created a particular piece and upload pictures of the finished item
Easy tracking of your suppliers and their details: you can click straight to their website or launch your email program straight from Bead Manager Pro
