Polishing Metal Jewelry

One issue with making metal jewelry, especially if you fabricate or solder, is the fact that you need to clean and polish it after you make it. I recently received an email from a novice metal worker who was concerned about how to clean her metal jewelry. Polishing wheels are not cheap, running any where […]

Ribbon Earrings

Have you noticed I’m on an earring kick lately?

Get Hammered Earrings

While it’s nice to be able to brag about making every single component of a jewelry piece, that’s not always practical. This project, Hammered Dangle Earrings, is a compromise between using pre-fabricated components and metal pieces that you make yourself.

Though Second City Style is designed to provide style information for women in the Chicago area, you don’t have to be a big city gal to get some excellent style advice from this on-line fashion magazine. Gunmetal Crystal Earrings

Gunmetal is already black, so if you like the oxidized look, then this a good choice to use for jewelry components and findings. One thing to be careful about, though, is that there is a coating on these, so you have be a little careful when handling them with metal tools.

One of my other fashion item favorites besides […]

My Plate of Beads

I’ve always been one of those people who have a full plate. It seems like as soon as I get something done and off my plate, I find myself putting something right back on. I was reading Cyndi Lavin’s blog the other day and she talked about how she is at loose ends because she […]

Tip #2 for Designing Jewelry Gifts

This is another tip related to Tip #1 about designing a jewelry gift.
Consider treatments and how the piece will be worn early on in the design process. For example, since this pendant or charm is brass, I know it will eventually start to get a patina on it. Personally, I don’t mind this when it […]

Many of you may already know who Sara Hardin is from her “Ask Sara” section at the Soft Flex web site. She is sort of the point person for anything Soft Flex and a very talented jewelry designer.
Along with helping others learn to make jewelry, she is also going to be pitching in to fight […]

Project Runway Reruns Already?

Well, normally, today is my recap day for Project Runway, but alas, I’m totally bummed that I sat down to nothing but a rerun last night. And, to top it off, it was from last week even!
What really burns my buns is that I know (heck, we all know) darn well that the last four […]
