No Beads and No Vacation
I took a few days of vacation from my part-time “real” job this week. When I told my co-workers, most said, “Oh, good for you. Have a nice time off.”
Of course, the days I’m taking off from that job are so that I can stay home and finish up working on my mix media jewelry book. Never having any real time off of work is one of the issues self-employed people, whether you are selling jewelry or writing about it like I am, have to deal with.
Another issue is not having time to actually do the beading or jewelry making that started us on this path. There are so many other things that must be done that your beads may just sit there on your work bench while you are busy wearing one of the many other hats - marketer, PR, bookkeeper - that are required of working for yourself.
On one hand, working for yourself gives you great freedom. I have an ill cat who will be undergoing some major surgery this week. That means a number of vet visits as well as home care from moi. If I had a regular 8 to 5 job, it would be much more difficult to do all that I’ll have to do next week to take care of him.
On the other hand, my work isn’t going anywhere. So, that means juggling my cat-mom duties and still somehow managing to get my jewelry book finished this week.

Tammy, I hope your kitty will be okay. I am a cat lover and know how difficult it is when they need medical attention.
I think you need to be cloned! My mother always said, “take one day at a time and things will fall into place”. Well, that’s okay when you’re not juggling too many projects and a job besides.
I enjoy your writings very much and I’m sure other bead lovers will agree with me, so please know we all appreciate your efforts.

Thanks, Joan. You made my day! It is a lot of juggling. Luckily, except for my part-time job, I love my work, so I feel the juggling is worth it for me.
My kitty goes in tomorrow for blood work and then the next for surgery. He had an ultra sound last week and is such a trooper. He’s 14 years old, so you never know, but he seems to be in pretty good spirits considering.
