Virtual Jewelry Making Classes
by Tammy Powley on December 11th, 2005
What started as a question on my About.com Jewelry Making forum about bead retreats turned into me babbling about how some day I’d like to put together a jewelry making retreat down here in Florida. It also sort of side stepped into a discussion about learning jewelry on your own without the benefit of a formal class. Learning jewelry making, in my opinion, is usually always easiest when you have a hands-on “in person” class, but that’s not always possible, especially with the busy lives many of us have today. But, there are a lot of ways you can take a virtual class. Here are a few ideas for you:
Free Jewelry Making E-Courses: I mentioned in my last post about my new e-course, “How to Start a Jewelry Business.” Along with this free e-course, I have a few others for those who want to get started making different kinds of jewelry (look for more coming up in the near future): Bead Stringing for Beginners; Bead Knotting for Beginners; Chandlier Earrings.
CDs, DVDs, and Videos: With technology so accessible these days, there are all kinds of jewelry making CDs, DVDs, and videos out on how to learn everything from beading to metalsmithing. I have reviewed a pretty good number of these, which you can find posted here: Reviews of Jewelry Making CDs & Videos.
Books and Magazines: For on going instruction, magazine subscriptions are excellent, and there are dozens of jewelry and beading magazines available. And, of course, don’t forget books. Check your local library and the craft section of most large books stores and also Internet books stores like Amazon.com. Again, you’ll find more reviews for you here: Jewelry Making Book and Magazine Reviews.
