Jewelry Making, Beading, and Dreaming
Its been a rough week for me. Without going into a lot of depressing details, lets just say I had a wake up call about life, and it made me start to think about what I have or have not accomplished so far, and Im not talking about accumulating goods or getting a job promotion, but following dreams, doing what I want with my life while I still have the chance.
As you grow older, its easy to tell yourself that youll follow your dreams when you retire or, even worse, convince yourself that your dreams arent worth following. It doesnt matter if its taking a class from a master lampwork artist in Italy, opening up a bead store, or selling your jewelry at your first art show. If youve always wanted to do something, then make plans to do it or they will most likely always be dreams instead of reality for you one day. Im not saying to leave your family for Italy or quite your day job and open a bead store. Im saying, if you havent already, its time to make plans in order to make your dream a reality.
Now, heres another even more difficult challenge. Work to make your dreams come true free of guilt. Often when you start working towards something the people around you will question you:
Do you really think youll make a living selling your jewelry?
What exactly do plan to do after you get back from Italy?
How are you going to justify all the time and money on ___________ (collecting beads, taking a jewelry making class, fill-in-the-blank)?
Why dismiss those who question you? Because, your dreams are worth it; they are a part of you, and you are worth it. So, I challenge you to dare to dream, and even more challenging, ask yourself: How can I make my dreams come true?
